"Blessed is he that considers the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble."
Psalms 41:1

"True religion is that which takes note of the fatherless, the widows and the vulnerable in their time of distress." James 1:27

The plight of orphaned children in third world countries is devastating. When parents die of HIV/AIDS, their children are left to fend for themselves. Many are turned away by their extended families simply because there is not enough food. A large percentage of orphaned children end up on the streets, unable to support themselves and unable to attend school. Having no alternatives, they try to earn money for food by any means, even prostitution. Pastor Shern and Tabitha Kaumba were drawn to help these children. They committed themselves to changing this situation. They began by taking in two children, providing them with a loving home and schooling. They soon added more children and gave them counseling, providing them with the tools they need to face their lives with courage. They love and nurture these precious children and strive to meet their physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Pastor Shern and Tabitha believe that children in their home have these rights: survival, development, protection and participation. The Kaumba’s live in the home with the children and take each one in as their own. Because of the love shown to them, the children call Pastor Shern and Tabitha “Mum” and “Dad.” The home itself is an overcrowded three-bedroom house. In the last two years, construction has been completed and an external office was added with the help of Sherry Holbrook, mother to Pastor Shern and Tabitha and Executive Director of Orphan Care International. The lease on this house will soon expire and they hope to purchase an existing farm or plot of land in Mazabuka with the help of Sherry and her organization. The plans include a new home and an academic training center that will benefit the whole community. The goal of the training center is to be able to teach working skills, such as carpentry, craftwork, sewing and farming. Gifts from donors who share the vision can make this possible.

We refer to Docsek as the “Wound Healing Center” for some very good reasons. This is a biblical statement. In separating the words you will find that “wound” means a cut with an opening that brings grief, hurt and pain to someone. The wound may not only be physical but also mental or emotional. The “healing” is a remedy given to take out the hurt, pain, or grief from someone. “Center” is a place of activities and at Docsek it is a place where the healing of a wound takes place. What is the meaning of all this? It is our belief that Docsek is mandated by God to take out the pain, the grief and the hurt the children go through after losing their beloved parents. They may have been mistreated in the past, abused or defiled, and certainly their hearts have been broken. They see no hope for their lives. We bring them to Docsek and we expect them to recover. In the Bible, James 1:27 says, “True religion is that which takes care of the fatherless, widows and vulnerable in their time of distress.” We believe that this statement holds the power to heal the hearts of every child who is admitted to or connected to Docsek.
